Sandocal 250 mg or 500 mg Tablet:
- Treatment or prevention of calcium depletion in various conditions including hypoparathyroidism, achlorhydria, chronic diarrhea, vitamin D deficiency, steatorrhea, sprue, pregnancy, lactation, menopause, pancreatitis, renal failure, alkalosis, and hyperphosphataemia.
- Increasingly used for treating hyperphosphataemia in chronic renal failure, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), and hemodialysis.
- Short-term relief of dyspeptic symptoms.
- No longer recommended for the long-term treatment of peptic ulceration.

- Calcium carbonate can rapidly and effectively neutralize gastric acid.
- Adverse Effects: Activation of calcium-dependent processes, leading to the secretion of gastric and hydrochloric acid.
- Prolonged high doses may cause hypercalcemia, alkalosis, and milk-alkali syndrome.

- Calcium carbonate reacts with gastric acid to produce salt and water.

- An increase in gastric pH diminishes the activity of pepsin in gastric secretion.
- Up to 30% of the oral calcium load may be absorbed.
✔️ Dosage & Administration of Sandocal 500mg Tablet
Administration:
- Timing: This may be taken with or without food.
- Enhanced Absorption: Take with meals for better absorption.
- Diet Consideration: Avoid taking with a large amount of fiber-rich food.
Adult Dose:
- Hyperacidity:
- Take 1-2 tablets as needed, up to a maximum of 16 tablets per day.
- Tablets may be sucked or chewed for administration.
- Hyperphosphataemia in Chronic Renal Failure:
- Initial: 2.5 g/day
- Up to 17 g/day in divided doses.
Renal Dose:
- Renal impairment (CrCl < 25 ml/min): Dosage adjustments may be needed based on serum calcium levels.

- Co-administration with thiazide diuretics or vitamin D may lead to milk-alkali syndrome and hypercalcaemia.
- Decreased absorption with corticosteroids.
- Decreases absorption of tetracyclines, atenolol, iron, quinolones, alendronate, Na fluoride, Zn, and calcium-channel blockers.
- Enhances cardiac effects of digitalis glycosides and may precipitate digitalis intoxication.

- Patients with calcium renal calculi or a history of renal calculi.

- Patients with suspected digoxin toxicity.
